Project Description
‘The Stolen’ is a feature film set at the time of the gold rush in 1860s New Zealand. Its the story of young mother Charlotte who must find her kidnapped son, navigating a world she doesn’t know, on the edge of danger with every heartbeat. The film stars Hollywood cast like Alice Eve, Jack Davenport and Graham McTavish and was sold worldwide.
Charlotte has settled in the South Island of New Zealand with her wealthy British husband, David. But her dreams of a new life and prosperous future are violently shattered when David is murdered at their home and her baby son is kidnapped.
After months of waiting for her the return of her child—and frustrated with the apathy of the authorities—when a ransom note arrives she realises that her only option will be to track him down on her own.
And so begins her journey through the wilds of an untamed New Zealand, bringing her into contact with the people populating this new civilisation: from suffragettes to gamblers, settlers to hustlers, outlaws to a native Maori warrior.
Charlotte’s quest forces her to join a convoy of hookers, dancers and ex-convicts heading cross-country for Goldtown, one of the many mining communities that has grown suddenly and swiftly on the island. Despite their different backgrounds, all the women on the wagon with Charlotte have found themselves on the fringes of this new society. And, now, Charlotte is no different. Together, they face hostile attacks from both man and nature.
Day by day, Charlotte is being forced to change. To grow. She learns how to dance, how to manage the attentions of a hungry man, how to fire a gun, how to fend for herself, and how to defend herself. How to survive.
Once in Goldtown, she meets Joshua McCullen, the charismatic owner of Goldtown. A man with ambition and aspiration. And the very man who is key to uncovering the truth behind the disappearance of her son. Now, Charlotte must dig deep. She must call upon all that she has learnt on the journey—and combine it with the strength of will that she has never relinquished—in order to fight to the death for what she holds most dear.
